Who we are
Dhamma Ratana (ဓမ္မ ရတနာ) is an app for listening to Buddhist teachings and reading Dhamma books. Questions about this policy can be sent to support.dhammaratana@gmail.com.
Information stored on your device
To make the app features work, the following is kept locally on your phone or tablet. It is not uploaded as a user profile.
- Reading: bookmarks, last page, reading mode and zoom for each book.
- Listening: your playback queue, playback speed, sleep timer and listening position.
- Downloads: audio and PDF files you choose to save for offline use.
- Dhamma alarms: scheduled alarms and the teaching or playlist you selected for each.
- Appearance: light, dark or dynamic color choices.
Removing a download deletes that file. Uninstalling the app removes all data stored with it.
Information used to load content
When you browse by teacher, category or collection, search, play audio, join the live stream, open a book or download a file, the app requests that content (and its images) from the Dhamma archive servers. The app also loads the Home screen feature cards and checks whether a newer app version is available. These requests include ordinary connection data, such as IP address, the address of the requested file and the time, which servers and networks record in order to deliver content. The app does not ask you to sign in and does not sell personal information.
Live stream
Joining the live stream streams audio from the archive servers like any other playback. The app shows the title of the teaching currently playing. No account or personal details are involved.
Notifications and background audio
If you create a Dhamma alarm, the app asks permission to show notifications and to start playback at the time you chose. You can turn alarms off in the app and revoke notification permission in iOS or Android settings. Audio may continue in the background, with lock-screen or notification controls, so a talk is not interrupted when you leave the app.
Children
The app is a general-audience Dhamma library. It does not knowingly collect personal information from children and does not offer accounts.
